Police seize van for acting as scrap metal collector in Banbury without licence and having no insurance

Police seized a vehicle for acting as a scrap metal collector in Banbury without a licence and having no insurance.

Thames Valley Police working with the Cherwell District Council Community Safety Team officers spotted and seized van today, Wednesday March 31.

Police seized the van in Sinclair Avenue in Banbury.

Cherwell District Council Community Safety Team officers took to social media about the incident and posted the following message on their Facebook page: "Seized. Yet another unlicensed Scrap Metal Collector has tried their luck in Cherwell.

"They were stopped, with the help of Thames Valley Police, and after all their paperwork was checked, of which there was little, they were found to have no insurance on the van.

"The Community Safety Team will always challenge collectors to ensure they are legal. If you want further information then get in touch: [email protected] or call us on: 01295 221824."

The driver will be issued a fine and points for driving the van without insurance, and was issued with a warning to not collect again without the appropriate licence. If caught again the driver could face prosecution.
