BANBURY welcomed its new town mayor at the annual inaugaration last night (Tuesday).
Cllr Ann Bonner took over the role as Banbury Town Mayor from Cllr Kieron Mallon, who stepped down after one year.

Mrs Bonner had previously been the deputy mayor and said she was "tremendously honoured" to take on the position during Banbury's 400th Charter year.

Cllr Tina Wren was named the town's new deputy mayor.

Meanwhile, the 'clip-clop' of Shire horses' hooves was heard around Banbury town centre on Monday when Hook Norton Brewery's traditional dray collected Cllr Mallon for his final duty as town mayor.

Sitting on a barrel of best Hooky bitter, Mr Mallon made the short journey from the town hall to Butchers Row, where Coach and Horses Inn landlord David Organ and brewery managing director James Clarke were waiting with a pint for the horses and beer and champagne for guests.

They were celebrating the official reopening of the pub after refurbishment.

For full details on both stories see this week's Banbury Guardian.
