BUSINESSES were flooded when a water main burst in the early hours of the morning.
Thames Water engineers were called to the incident between South Bar and West Bar, Banbury, at 4.45am today (Friday).
The Swan pub, in South Bar, was flooded but no damage was caused.
Landlord Sara Funey said: "It was just like a river, I have
never seen anything like it.
"Water was coming through the doors and it's lucky we have a stone floor - if we'd had carpet, we would have had it."
Thames Water isolated the mains and have begun work to repair the mains.
The company's spokesman Amy Dutton said they had only received reports that two businesses had been affected.
"The burst has not impacted on customers's water supply however two businesses have experienced some flooding as a result," she said.
"Loss adjusters will be visiting customers affected by flooding and will deal directly with any claims for damage.
"Thames Water would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience or stress this may have caused."
The engineers also had to deal with a smaller pipe that has burst in Lennox Gardens off Woodgreen Avenue in Banbury.
Ms Dutton said they were not sure what had caused the pipes to burst.
