A 48-year-old man has been arrested after making a telephone threat to kill an Oxfordshire County Council member of staff.

At 11.10am today (Thursday) police were called to Samuelson House in Tramway Road, Banbury where it was reported a man had made a telephone threat.

The council locked down the building as part of its normal procedure if on the rare occasion a member of staff is threatened.

The 48-year-old, who is from Bicester, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and is now in custody.

Inspector Katrina Hibbert, from Bicester police station, said: “We take all reports of such threats very seriously and respond swiftly. We are confident that this was a targeted threat and did not pose a danger to the general public. The incident has now been resolved.”
